The Renewal Workshop started in Cascade Locks in 2016 as a solution to a growing problem. The Renewal System takes discarded apparel and textiles and turns them into Renewed Apparel, upcycled materials or recycling feedstock. Data is collected on everything that flows through the system and is given back to their brand partners to help them improve the production and design of future products. It is a zero waste system that recovers the full value out of what has already been created as a way of serving customers, partners and planet.
American Waterways, Inc. (Portland Spirit)
The Portland Spirit, Willamette Star, Crystal Dolphin and Explorer vessels are locally owned and locally operated by American Waterways, Inc., which began operations in 1994. The Portland Spirit company also operates the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler, Locks Waterfront Grill, Marine Park Visitors Center, Gorge Pavilion and Thunder Island in the Port of Cascade Locks, Oregon. AWI employs approximately 150 people seasonally.
Son of Man Sagardo is a cidery that crafts its beverage in the Basque-style tradition of Northern Spain, but with the spirit of the Pacific Northwest. Their product uses native yeasts, Oregon apples and spontaneous ferment. The cidery’s home lies in the Heart of the Gorge, Cascade Locks, Oregon.

pFriem Family Brewers opened their flagship operation site in Hood River, Oregon in 2012. In 2020, pFriem expanded its Hood River facility and opened a second facility in Cascade Locks. This beautiful building encompasses warehousing and barrel aging, as well as serves as the main logistics hub. pFriem’s dedication to the craft is apparent in their product. It continues to earn award after award for premium craft beers, a good example of which may be earning The Beer Connoisseur’s Brewery of the Year in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
