Art in the Park

In 2010, the Port commissioned local artist Heather Söderberg of Söderberg Bronze Works Inc. to create two bronze sculptures of Sacagawea and the dog Seaman, of Lewis and Clark history. These two figures have historical significance in the area—Cascade Locks was a noted stop on Lewis and Clark’s trail.These sculptures are located in the roundabout adjacent to the Visitor’s Center. Heather’s stunning work set in such a beautiful location creates a site that will be treasured for years to come.

The statues were unveiled and dedicated to Port Commissioner Jean McLean on April 13th, 2011. This date marked the 205th Anniversary of Lewis & Clark’s return trip through Cascade Locks (April 13th, 1806). The community gathered for the dedication, live music from the Oregon Valley Boys, and appetizers catered by Portland Spirit while welcoming this beautiful addition into Cascade Locks.

In addition to the statues, Sacagawea Circle boasts comfortable benches, native plants, lighting, interpretive signage, and electrical outlets for public use. This beautiful, peaceful site is a necessary stop anytime you’re in Cascade Locks.
